Private Tuition

Little Star Writing Private Tuition is a bespoke service, tailored to your child’s individual needs. As students learn the art of storytelling, not only will they learn new skills and build their confidence, they will also discover the rewarding nature of Creative Writing by seeing their story published in our annual LSW book.

Please note, LSW Private Tuition differs from standard Literacy Tutoring. We focus on the art of storytelling, character realisation, structure, plot, creativity and believability. Whether your child is an aspiring author or reluctant writer, our two-hour private tuition time will provide them with the knowledge and key skills they need to write any piece of prose with confidence and credibility.

Ideal for exam preparation (particularly the 7+ and 11+ entry level exams), we use a variety of games, activities and worksheets to advance your child's skills and teach them a few simple rules to boost their writing knowledge. Please note, spaces are limited and prices vary depending on the agreed time, day, location, and whether we have available slots.

Emily absolutely loved your session! As you left she jumped up and down and asked when you could come again. She continued and finished her story straight away. Emily said she would feel more confident about writing at school now. We would definitely like you to work with her again. You’ve filled her with so much confidence. Thank you!

Thanks for the lesson in half term. She loved it. I must admit I thought two hours would be a bit long for her, but you covered a lot and she loved it. She’s really looking forward to the next one! Thank you.

My son displayed a defeciency translating his thoughts into words, often leading to his schoolwork being incomplete. Mel imparted some of her knowledge and methodology of writing. It has helped him markedly.

Will was really buzzing after his 1:1 session and said how much more confident he now feels about the essay part of his exam. I wish his other tutor had the same effect. I have to drag him kicking and screaming to her! You really have a wonderful way with the kids. I couldn’t believe how much you got through with Will and kept him concentrating for that length of time.
— Mum to Will, age 11, Twickenham
My daughter had two 1:1 sessions with Mel in the run up to a competitive 7+ exam. I only wish I had discovered Little Stars sooner! My daughter related to the way they plan stories so much better than anything else she had done at school and it really helped her creative writing skills. She enjoyed the sessions and got a huge amount out of them. Mel was friendly and approachable and my daughter immediately felt comfortable with her. After her first session, my daughter wrote in her diary that she was the kindest lady she had ever met! She was full of enthusiasm about the sessions and didn’t really see them as ‘work’. I would not hesitate to recommend Little Stars to anyone hoping to encourage a reluctant writer or to hone story-writing skills. I am sure I will be calling on their services again in the future!
